Surrey Hills

After spending the morning and early afternoon with Mum,  I made my way round the M25 back home, taking a cross-country detour to Newlands Corner, a popular beauty spot outside of Guildford on the North Downs with views over the Surrey Hills.

As expected, the car park was very busy, with walkers and Bikers who meet up for a drink and snack from the outdoor-serving cafe. There was a large group there today, but I easily found a parking spot, and bought an ice cream from the cafe with only a short, socially-distanced wait in a queue.

Afterwards I took a stroll, and for the first time made the effort to walk down to the bottom of the hill to visit the Silent Pool (rather than driving!), which was probably an old chalk quarry and has a haunting legend of a young girl who drowned in the pool, being driven to her death by a nobleman, who left evidence at the scene which seemed to identify him as King John (extra).
