Fractal Vegetable from Outer Space

Romanesco. We've got six of these growing in a nice row next to their more familiar relative, broccoli. It tastes a bit like cauliflower, but, well, greener. Wikipedia says the number of spirals on the head of Romanesco broccoli is a Fibonacci number. I also found something that looked like a knitting pattern with filled in squares on graph paper, that was an illustration of cellular automata, which was supposed to explain it all. True confession: I have zero idea what this is all about, but I like the idea of eating such a complicated vegetable. It will make me a math whiz.
