Watsonia pillansii

This is a plant from the Western Cape of South Africa discovered by a botanist, Neville Pillans. It seems to flourish in dry conditions. We saw it at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) gardens at Wisley in Surrey.

We have enjoyed our visit to these gardens today as we gradually move out of lockdown. There were a good number of visitors, all pre-booked and socially distancing. The gardens cover several acres so there is much to see without being crowded. (see extras.)  The essentials, coffee, snacks and toilets were available and the sun was out.
