Puffling

Was absolutely delighted to finally see a puffling at Sumburgh Head.

At this time of year there is a lot of activity around the burrows as the adult puffins come and go but the youngsters tend to stay well hidden until it is time for them to fledge then they head straight out to sea.

This particular youngster was keen to have a look at the world outside the burrow - but having seen the state of the Shetland weather this morning it opted to retreat back underground.

Hopefully it'll avoid the various local predators and will be back at Sumburgh looking for a nest site of its own in a couple of years.
