Kingston Bridge

was completed in June 1970 so this road bridge across the River Clyde in Glasgow just had its 50th birthday. The design of this cantilevered dual span ten lane motorway roadbridge was inadequate for the increasing volumes of traffic and by 1990 a massive refurbishment started which include the biggest ever bridge lift entering and Guiness Book of Records. The strength upgrade took ten years and did not interrupt traffic flow.
