Lathyrus Odoratus

Finally!

After so many hours of searching last year and this I have finally found the rare Musk Orchid (Herminium monorchis)! Seven flowering spikes in total. They are notoriously difficult to see - only 15 cm high, yellow-green in colour and hiding in grass on ridiculously steep chalk slopes. I must have walked past these ones dozens of times without seeing them. If you can get close enough to smell it they give off a distinct honey and lemon scent which attracts insects. I admit to being over-excited about this one. Going back tomorrow with my macro lens to take a better photograph.
