The Golden Mile

The stretch of the Great West Road through Brentford was known as the Golden Mile because of the concentration of factories in the early 20th century, many of which were housed in art deco buildings constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. This panel on the Brentford Bridge shows three of these buildings - the Firestone building (demolished controversially in 1980), the Gillette building (still standing but no longer a factory) and the Maclean's building (demolished).
