Sue Foll's picture of the day

Cath at Middle Temple

Cath is a trainee barrister and formerly my editor on Times Travel.

She invited me to lunch today at the Middle Temple Hall (behind her in the picture).

The building dates from the 1500's and was lined with dark wood panels and painted coats of arms. The stain glass windows shone in the intermittent March sunlight.

Food not bad either... posh school dinners!

I had a fantastically complex turkey lunch with chestnut stuffing and a rich red wine gravy. I think the recipe had been refined and elaborated over many centuries.

I had to laugh out loud when I saw the spotted dick and custard on the dessert stand. I wonder if it's served every day?
