Pink and blue

Roger and Carol who live in the sunny south, have bought a brand new motor home so that they can visit aged parents without going in the house. Due to COVID they can’t visit their homes in Mallorca or the French Alps.

They came up to have a walk with us today. We did 7 or 8 miles through the woods, then Debdon and Red track to Blue Mill and the moor home. 19500 steps. My foot is acting up after yesterday, and my tooth is still sore.

I met Carol years ago, cross country skiing in Norway. We kept in touch she introduced us to Roger in a bar in the Alps where we were skiing and where they had a chalet. We discovered during our chat that we were all booked on the same Russian research ship for a voyage to The Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica. We all got on well and after that met for a bit of skiing. Roger taught us a lot - he’d skied for ever and stayed in their chalet in Val d’Isere for most of the winter. He was so generous with his time as we didn’t start to ski till we were in our 60s. We’d go walking when they’d invite us to their lovely house in Mallorca, last blipped 3 years ago. Mr C and Roger went together on an expedition to Kanchenjunga, the world’s 3rd highest mountain. Walking the Northumbrian moors was not exactly as exciting as any of that, but we all enjoyed our day together. A bonus of lockdown - they’d never have come north otherwise!
