Community gardens

Today the family went to the local community gardens for the first monthly Sunday session co-ordinated by Shandon Local Food Group.

We're so lucky to have such a resource on our doorstep: raised salad beds, an acre of lazy beds, woodland, and an old orchard. These are my girls in one of the apple trees, possibly a Newton Wonder or an Alderman.

Since starting the full-time job last year I've had no time to visit these gardens (usually open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) so the weekend sessions are going to be key. And I miss good physical labour. The day-job is interesting, challenging, socially useful etc. but it's not the same as hard graft and horticulture.
