Kirkyard dykes.

The high dyke round the older part of Peathill Kirkyard is roughly 2 metres high. In pre- enclosure days farm animals roamed freely, often straying into kirkyards. In 1597 an Act of the Scottish Parliament decreed that all kirkyards should have dykes 2 ells high, to prevent beasts digging up bodies.
