Balfron Church graveyard

This afternoon I wandered into the graveyard up at Balfron Church, just for a change of scene, and was struck by how old all the gravestones are. They obviously ran out of space - there is now a cemetery further down the road, on the outskirts of the village.

The stone on the right is probably one of the 'newest', where the names are actually legible: a husband who was killed in 1944 - I saw his name on the war memorial nearby - and his widow, died in 1977. Their daughter's name is included on the inscription, but she is buried in the new cemetery.

Looking forward to my fix of 'The Durrells' tonight :-)
