Mop-tops

An early walk proved to be a photographic damp squib and the rest of the day was too busy for photography. Most of the time I was out the weather was grey with a bitter northerly wind, and on the few occasions when the light was good the wildlife disappeared. The second cup of coffee, combined with a longer than usual route, was an unfortunate combination and made it impossible to stand still enough to take a photograph for the last twenty minutes or so!

But spring must be on its way...the great crested grebes have begun their annual courtship display, though this morning their dances were rather short-lived and tentative - and a long way out in the lake. This is a heavily cropped and processed silhouette, but I liked the shaggy crests and the almost heart-shaped negative space between them. Would have been quite suitable for Valentine's Day!
