The long drop

Many more tourists in the town today, in spite of the showery weather. I had a walk down to the town after lunch and went down Jacob's Ladder with its 144 steps. Near the top there are two seats where you can sit and look out over the harbour, tho' one of the views - this one - is blocked by trees. In front of each seat is a metal fence, intended to stop you falling 50ft or more to the back of the distillery. One of them was kicked down by mindless eejits last year and replaced, the other had a panel kicked out last week - it was the right-hand panel in this picture. I reported it on the council's web page last Thursday and the following day these barriers were put up. Today I had a message from the Amenity Officer to say that he was looking at prices from local firms to replace the fence and take away the barriers. So I think that was a pretty good response considering the current problems and the council cutbacks.

Quote of the Day:

Gilbert K. Chesterton – “Whenever you remove any fence, always pause long enough to ask why it was put there in the first place.“
