Stuff and Nonsense

Eider Duck #63

What a lovely day to finish off our short break on Anglesey. We dropped in at the Spinnies on our way home to see if anything would be washed in with the high tide. I was delighted to see a couple of Eider ducks - but not quite the beautiful black and white plumage I’m used to. I assume it is either moulting or a juvenile?
Nothing else of note to see today, unless you count upwards of 100 Mute Swans and over 25 Mergansers!

We then headed to RSPB Conwy where only the toilets and trails were open, but that was fine by us. A one-way system around the reserve seemed to work well and the screens outside the hides gave good views of the pools. There was a lot of excitement around as two (or maybe three) Large White Egrets were on the reserve, a very rare visitor indeed. For us, we have seen them often at Burton Mere and Parkgate, so it was quite amusing to see people getting enthusiastic about seeing them. But they are very good looking herons - I’ve put one in extras.

It was a great walk around the reserve with lots of waders around because of the high tide - I love seeing curlews especially.

Back at the car we had our butties in the car and then headed home. Unfortunately there was lots of traffic and roadworks On the motorway which meant It took us a lot longer than normal.

Back home it was exciting to see what had happened in the garden since Friday. We have our first sunflower, some snapdragons and a few more zinnias - it’s beginning to look like a proper garden!

I will catch up with your journals tomorrow or Wednesday I expect - too tired now.
