Through the Gates

To the Muslim War Cemetery - Peace Garden. On Horsell Common. Originally completed in 1917, this was the final resting place of 19 Muslim soldiers from WW1 and a further 8 casualties from WW2. All 27 served in different regiments for Allied troops. the site was tended by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission until 1969 when the bodies were exhumed and re-interred at Brookwood Military Cemetery. The Grade 2 listed building then fell into disrepair until 2013 when funding form Historic England and Woking borough Council enabled its restoration. . There are 27 Himalayan Birch trees and a water feature incorporating memorial stone bearing their names.

I had no idea until today that this beautiful, peaceful garden existed. i hope to visit again in which ase more blips will follow. For the moment, a couple of extras
