Old timbers

It was a glorious morning as I drove across Surrey for my lunch date and I had the car sunshine roof open - what a treat! I did have the heater blasting away too!

I met five girlfriends for lunch at this small hotel. We ate well but didn't drink a lot as we had all driven separately from different parts of the county. The atmosphere is timeless inside this late C16 former coaching inn as most of the original timbers survive. I've discovered that during the Victorian period it closed its doors to travellers and became a dairy farm. It was turned back into a hotel in the 1970s and has been in the same ownership ever since. It wouldn't succeed as a coaching inn now as the village has been by-passed!
