You'll have to take my word for it, but this is Comet Neowise. If you squint, you can just make it out centre left.

Technical info: Camera on the ground, lens propped up on a paperback biography of former England cricket coach Duncan Fletcher. Shutter-release operated with muddy finger after camera lost contact with remote app. Complete guesswork on the focus (most attempts so blurred that even the castle ruin was a hazy blob). Light pollution: significant. Camera battery: dead after 20 minutes and no spare.

All in all, then, a triumphant post-midnight adventure.
