Cluster

Steelblue ladybirds on a magnolia leaf. These tiny ladybirds were brought into N.Z. from Australia in the early 1900s to deal with scale insects on citrus trees. They devour mites and other pests too and are among the top ten beneficial insects in gardens and orchards. A nip from a steelblue ladybird is like being pricked by a sharp needle.
