The German Flyers

I went back to the German flyers graves today. It's such a strangely captivating place.

Who amongst us could fail to be impressed with the Pictish stones in the roofless church above the bend on the River Don with converted mill buildings on the far bank?

The Commonwealth flyers graves are there as well of course with folk from Canada and South Africa plus a couple of Polish Air Force pilots and even some poor ferry pilot from the Royal Women's Auxiliary Air Force.
The German flyers all died many years ago of course and some would still say deservedly. Just a few minutes before they were shot down they dropped their bombs on the harbour area of Aberdeen killing a good many folk.
The graveyard has a lovely view over the River Don. I often wonder if they saw it before they died so senselessly.
