In search of the comet

One-o'clock in the morning and I had just dropped off to sleep, only to be rudely awakened by shouting and loud banging outside. By the time I raised the energy to get out of bed to investigate, the culprits had disappeared, but on parting the curtains the rail fell off its fixings at one end, and the curtain ended up on my head! Oh joy! Managed to prop it up, and went back to bed. MrM, meanwhile, didn't stir! So the first job this morning, with MrM's help, was to put the curtain rail back up. It's ancient, and needs replacing asap!

Early this morning, the forecast for this evening was good, so we decided to try and get a good view of comet Neowise. By afternoon, the forecast wasn't quite as good, but we set off anyway. Too late for a walk, MrM drove down to Coquetdale, for a picnic by the river. It was much chillier than expected and a tad breezy understatement for al fresco eating, but good to be out anyway!  We continued driving, past Chew Green (once the site of a Roman marching camp) and through the Otterburn military ranges - some of the most remote and wild countryside in Britain - to Redesdale. By the time we reached Carter Bar, most of the sky was hidden by a thick layer of cloud, and our hopes of seeing the comet faded. A nice sunset though (extra), and it was a most enjoyable road trip!
