Corvey

...railway bridge over the river Weser, near Höxter. The abbey dates back to the 9th century, most of the buildings around the famous church are much younger, reconstructed after the massive devastations of the 30-years-war, and are in secular ownership since 1820. From 1860, August Hoffmann von Fallersleben (born 1798, the writer of many well known children’s songs and of the Deutschlandlied, its third strophe serving as the actual German anthem) lived here under protection of the Duke of Ratibor & Corvey and worked as a head bibliothecary. Hoffmann was buried in the churchyard in 1874.
