Thorpe Bridge

On the 10th September 1874 a London to Great Yarmouth express train and a mail train coming the opposite way had a head on collision on the single track line at Thorpe Bridge, which crosses the River Yare, just outside Norwich station.

27 people were killed.

(There seems to be some dispute about the exact details of this crash. I took the above from an informational sign at the site).
