I'm beginning to think the signs here in the United States are like the ones in Mexico, merely a suggestion of what should be done but not an absolute rule. While the beach was supposedly closed at Greenlake in downtown Seattle, there were dozens of people on said beach and in the water. The same was true of the pathway that was open only for walkers (and then only one way), yet we were passed by a number of cyclists and skateboarders on our 2.3 mile circuit of the lake (and don't get me started on the people walking the "wrong" way around the lake). I guess people want what they want and even law abiding Seattleites flout the rules when the temperatures top 90ºF (32ºC).
