It was our eldest's birthday today (I'll leave the reader to guess his age) but we took him and his new family out to supper in Winterbourne Whitechurch today. The Milton Arms wasn't the most accomplished of restaurants but the staff were very kind and put up with a noisy bunch of youngsters – as did the other guests . . .
His delightful new partner had made a cake (which the restaurant allowed on the table, without a quibble) on which she had placed enough candles to light these faces.
It has been a very happy time after months of separation which followed a period of sadness for him; this looks like hope for the future.
