Moonshine at Dymchurch

It was almost an ill fated trip to Dymchurch for a late evening swim. The day was swelteringly hot. We were out walking at 6.45 and it was warm then, even warmer by the time we arrived home at 9.00 o'clock.

We pottered in the heat, Susan deadheading and weeding while I installed a new water pump in the barrel and hoovered the garage carpets (as you do)

By the time we were having an earlyish tea the skies had clouded over and it was looking thundery. We decided still to go only to be caught in a huge jam near Ashford caused by an overturned car in the roadworks leading to a delay over an hour. Instead of arriving at 8.00pm we arrived after the sun had set (with a fiery glow) at 9.00pm to find the tide right up covering the sand and breaking on the shallow steps that lead onto the beach.

Susan declined the opportunity for a swim. I was very brave and splashed straight in for a 10 minute wallow in what was comparatively warm water. Over to the north there were flashes of lightning jagging down the sky which was fascinating to see from the water. As was the moon shining over the sea.

We watched the lightning for a while from the shore before a much quicker and easier drive back.
