Hoverfly on Gaura

I am getting behind again!

There are 280 species of Hoverfly in UK and even more over the Channel on the Continent.  They are useful in the garden as they eat aphids.

T having finished harvesting the oilseed rape on someone else's farm a few miles away has now started on the wheat back home.  The crop is growing in some small fields on the hill opposite which was a grass ley before but the grass had grown stale and there were no wild flowers or orchids so the decision was made to improve the soil and make it flourish again.  (There are a couple of  SSI nearby).
