Hand Made Bonsai Pots

Two brand new hand made Shohin bonsai pots made just for my trees. Beautiful work by Springwood Ceramics based in the UK.

Picking a pot is hard, the idea is to have a colour that either matches or compliments some colour aspect of the tree so having in mind when it might be displayed is important, will it be in autumn / fall with organge leaves or in winter with silver bark? The idea is also to match age of pot with the tree, it should look like it's been in there for years with patina to match - hard with a new pot! This is to reflect the age of the tree and give the appearance of maturity.

There is then the horticultural vs astetics. The rule of thumb is that the pot is as deep as the trunk is wide. These are 3cm deep so very shallow for a lot of mature roots - trees still need to be healthy! The pots width is generally 2/3 the height, these are both 15cm wide. So you can start to picture the size of the tree going in these!

So picking a pot is hard!
