Gargoyle ...

or Grotesque?

A visit to Buxton in Derbyshire today.
Work on the renovation of the Crescent, which we think may now be a Hotel, has come on a great deal since our last visit. It stood behind hoardings for such a long time and it was difficult to see any progress.

Spotted this fellow in the street behind the famous crescent.

A gargoyle is an architectural feature, the function of which is to carry water away from a building so as not to erode the stonework, from the French word meaning ’to gargle’.
A grotesque also known as a chimera is an architectural feature which may be purely decorative or may serve some other function.
