Crazy About Birds

Praying Mantis??

Not sure who climbed out of this shell - maybe a praying mantis? Whatever it was - the thing left behind is very cool. Look at those long skinny legs! I somehow noticed this hanging from that blade of grass beside the path we've created for ourselves along the edge of the hayfield. Amazing what you can see when you're looking.

Again - another misty morning with everything covered in dew drops.

The extra is a look at the crowd of differential grasshoppers that were all over one of the clumps of Eastern gamagrass - Tripsacum dactyloides - are dotted around the hayfield. Apparently the grass is good feed, and a distant relative of corn. Much bigger than the hay that makes up the bulk of what's growing in the field. There are a lot of random weeds too, though. Including dogbane and common milkweed.
