Day Ten

A headwind was the main problem today. I also had a really odd experience once I was out of Melrose and heading to Edinburgh. I was on a well maintained road which had a gentle downhill gradient yet it felt as though I was pedalling through treacle. When I stopped pedalling I came to an immediate halt. My first thought was that I had a brake jamming or something similar but a check relieved nothing.
It turned out that the road had a fairly steep uphill gradient! The illusion of the reverse was remarkably strong!
I believe there is a famous road elsewhere in Scotland where this illusion is even more pronounced.
