Oh look, TWO drains!!!

Meet Norman, our builder. We are refurbishing an old house. Judging by the stonework (deep sigh) it started life as an agricultural building around 1750. A single storey kitchen outshot was built at the back, in the 1970s, without foundations!!!

So part of the project is digging down to a level where we can put some in. We also need to tidy up the drains, see 23rd July blip. But we weren't expecting to find two sets of pipes, the one currently in use (foreground) being utterly rotten and the older one (background) seemingly fine.

Tomorrow we will check the old one runs properly out to the sewer, and go back to the status quo ante. Nothing is ever straightforward, is it?

Today we also replaced the flat kitchen roof, but that's another story.
