Swan

Today's the day .............................. to go against the flow

There were lots of swans on the river today - sixteen at the last count. Lots of teenagers and a few mums and dads.

I watched this one swim by effortlessly - no mean achievement because it was going upstream and the water was flowing quite fast downstream. I wondered what it would do when it got to the weir. It would have to get up a couple of feet of waterfall if was to continue on its way.

And then, of course - there was a flapping of wings and up it went to the next level without any trouble. I'd forgotten that swans can fly .......................
