Peace

At 08:15 on August 6th, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima. 80,000 people were killed instantly, with another 35,000 seriously injured. By the end of the year, a further 60,000 would be dead from the effects of the radioactive fallout.

This statue, called The Statue Of Mother And Infant In 1945, portrays a dead mother, with pieces missing from her body, still protecting her baby. It is a symbol of peace at the International Peace Museum in Osaka.

We must all strive for peace. We must continue to educate our children to strive for peace, like these children who visited the Hiroshima Peace Park Museum.

Nobel Prize winner Setsuko Thurlow continues to strive for peace and for a world rid of nuclear weapons. Her account of the unimaginable horrors she witnessed in Hiroshima should be heard.
