David and Goliath

I first spotted the caterpillar but then saw the little bug.  It must have been causing the caterpillar some discomfort as it kept approaching it towards the back and, I suspect, taking little bites out of it.  Every time it did, the caterpillar reared up it’s head looking as though it was in some pain.

At first I thought this was a Box Moth caterpillar which was a bit of a worry, as I have a box hedge in the garden and they are known to cause irreparable damage to the plants.  However, a bit more research showed it to be the similar looking caterpillar of a Large White Butterfly; on that basis I was quite happy for it to munch away at my rather less than impressive Nasturtium patch.
