Wrangling Canoes

Sick of Coronavirus, sick of each other, sick of whatever we had been doing, John and I decided we needed to get out of the house and leave it to the ministrations of our house cleaner. She has been coughing for two weeks so we figured we'd be better off vacating the premises. But what to do? We have been cloistered for so long that we couldn't even figure out what we wanted. Lunch? What's open? Who knows? Trail House? Hot dogs at a picnic table in the parking lot doesn't sound that appealing. Well What does sound good to you? Tomato sandwich.

After a lengthy discussion we made tomato sandwiches at home and ate them at a picnic table next to Lake Ralphine followed by a walk around the lake. I had forgotten about what a mess the large population of geese make there despite the best efforts of the staff with hoses and disinfectant.

There is a boathouse there with canoes, paddleboats and even a couple of proper sailboats for rent. By the time we got there, the lifeguards (red shirts) were rounding up the canoes with the one motor boat allowed on the lake and the staff (purple shirts) was cheering them on. Will was on the staff there one summer and Peter was a counselor at an excellent day camp there. We saw kids at the camp playing a game in  a big circle on the lawn, well distanced and wearing masks. They all seemed to be having a good time. There is usually a snack bar but it is closed this summer.

The weather was just about perfect at aroundd 80ºF, a little too warm for John but his servomechanisn seems to be limited to a range of about 5 degrees. At 75º he'd be talking about needing a 'wrap'. Mine functions better, but if I get overheated during exercise, my body temperature plummets like a rock s soon as I stop, and doesn't seem to know when to stop. No wraps needed today and the brush with children, teenagers, boats and water gave us a good break from Covid fatigue. The best part was  we coming home to a clean house....
