Wandering

Cloudier today but still warm and with promise of sun later perhaps. We started with brunch outside the Pantry in Stockbridge...very tasty and filling. Headed to the botanical gardens where we’d hoped to enjoy a first visit this year, but hadn’t booked online and couldn’t get in.
Dithered a bit about what to do then headed out to Dalkeith park and did a good walk through the ancient oak wood, planted to help with leather making industry of the monks in the 11th century apparently. Some beautifully gnarled old trees and stumps as well as lots of tall thin straight ones...unusual for oak but probably managed in a particular way.
After a cold drink outside the cafe we headed to Portobello and did the full length of the beach walk and back. Hadn’t realised they’ve put up a Ferris wheel...seems an infection nightmare so I’m not sure why (didn’t seem to be working mind you). There were several buskers playing along the length of the prom....first live music I’ve heard since February....!
A phoned, they still haven’t had their money back from the wedding venue but are already moving on to think about trying to buy a house and use the money for a deposit.
After a look in the Velvet Easel art gallery (some nice pieces, but not nice enough!) we headed to Newhaven to pick up our pre-ordered fish and chips. Delicious! Sat on the harbour wall to eat them, and lucky enough to end the day in warm sunshine and watching the boats. Lovely end to the holiday.
