Gull chasing tern

This red-billed gull doesn't stand much chance of catching a white fronted tern, but it gave it a good shot.

Today we went to Pigeon Bay, on Banks Peninsula, on a NPSNZ field trip. I hadn't really tried birds in flight before, and most of my efforts were hopeless. Much more practice required! Still, if I could manage something like this, but a bit sharper, and a little closer (this shot is cropped to about half-size), I'd be happy. Thinking about it, though, I was lucky to get both birds in sharp focus.
