The Pest?

‘A gull came to my water trough
On a hot, hot day
To drink there

The voice inside my head said to me
Drive him away

But I must confess how I liked him
How glad I was he had come like a guest, quietly
to drink
at my water trough.
And depart peacefully and quenched

To sit once again on my roof’
Apologies to D.H. Lawrence.
