The White Peak

WEDNESDAY Staycation Day #5

There had been an incredible storm in the early hours. I don't think I have seen anything like it before. It lasted around two hours and the thunder and lightning was continuous for around 30 minutes. Yet by 9:00 am there was hardly a damp patch to be seen and during the course of the day the temperatures rose again to around 30 degrees C.

We all headed over to Monyash for a 7.5 km walk along the Lathkil Valley. This is in the White Peak area where the landscape is predominantly limestone. (see the contrast to yesterday's blip). Lots of butterflies and dragonflies today (Fritillary in extra).

Monyash is a delightful village with a pond, village green, ice cream shop and popular pub (Bull's Head). We took advantage of the Eat out to Help Out scheme and had lunch in the sunny beer garden (see extra).

After recharging our batteries we joined Harriet and George at the Eyam Hall Coolstones Bistro for dinner in the outdoor courtyard. Another £40 discount on our meal - Thank you Rishi.

Another film night with Netflix -  Hot Fuzz - a crazy police themed movie.
