Blackbird sentry on the gate (L2D3)

This was my second day of working from home. Many fewer Zoom meetings, and I began to feel a little redundant clinically. Only to be told of a further meeting (by Zoom) to discuss the discharges from the unit, and how to get more, given that we are entering a weekend. By encouraging those in the wards to consider how someone might be able to manage outside of hospital, and focussing on the things that need to be done to facilitate that, some more movement was achieved.

Later I went for my evening jog, around the perimeter of Grey Lynn Park. One street runs along much of the western edge of the park, and many of the houses abut the park. This blackbird was perched on a gate from a property into the park.

Today is Day 3 of the second lockdown in Auckland. It has been extended for another 12 days, although government will review a week early. All the new cases bar one are connected to the family who were the first found of this cluster. Because of the community awareness of the need the first to get symptoms sought a test and everyone involved has been fully cooperative.

During my jog I passed many others enjoying some fresh air and exercise. About half had masks. There was a largish group of parents and children using the cycle track with all its ups and downs. I saw no masks, and little physical distancing.

It is likely that there is an attitude in some that this is a South Auckland problem. But just as it has extended about 200 km south to Tokoroa (2 confirmed cases) it is likely to be more widespread in greater Auckland.
