Sunday: Opatija

K. and I decided a few weeks ago that it is time to resume our travelling so here we are in Opatija (about two hours from Zagreb) for the weekend.

The drive here was incredible.  We went through snowy mountain passes - it was really slow going and we were stuck behind snowploughs trying to clear the roads.  K. and I were looking at each other, questioning the wisdom of our weekend jaunt.  And then, literally, from one 100yds to the next,  no snow!  It was so odd, we went from waist high snow to none within seconds.

Opatija is lovely!  It does have an off season feel to it at the moment, but it is a really picturesque town. It was very popular with the in-crowd in Austro-Hungarian times and the architecture really reflects that.  There are some amazing villas and buildings here.

It it, however, perishingly cold so we have decided that a visit at a warmer time might be in order.  Here we were down at the harbour - next time I will show you the villas.
