Apart from the usual impediment of people standing blocking doorways, the information system at York Castle/Prison museum is quite good for kids in that it starts speaking at them when someone enters the room/every few minutes so that they absorb at least some information even if they're just rushing round looking for nooks to secrete themselves into or things to climb. The prison bit was certainly more effective than the museum bit, where Nicky and I did most of the looking for the things you had to look for to find the hidden letters to spell out a word to not win a prize. Earlier, they had rushed round Clifford's tower with barely a wait to peer out at the views. Sadly, the wee bakery I got a fantastic pork pie from when we were here in 2005 has since closed down, seemingly unable to survive after the most recent floods.
