Les Courses Camarguaises

An upward fight to get out and about after yesterday's food poisoning.  I suppose I really had no choice but to suffer through and abide the calling of the rest of the family.  After all a bullfight was in the offering!

A headnote: the announcer before the event read through the rules in place for Covid-19 and the face mask requirement during the match... of which, I think only the Italians were using them (us)... dear oh dear...

Les Courses Camarguaises (bull games) are a traditional sport in this region of France, in which men (les razeteurs or raceteurs) in white outfits (always white) use special tools called les racets, or les crochets to remove “les attributs” from a bull’s horns. Les attributs are made up of 5 different items: la cocarde (a small red ribbon) tied between the horns, les glans (one or two tassels made of yarn or cord), each dangling from one horn, and les ficelles (strings tied around the base of each horn).

Super fun to watch these guys challenge the bulls to try and get the strings from the bull horns and then jump over the fences to the safety of the spectactor stands.  (And the bulls that would also sometimes jump over the fences!)
