Another Knott special

This is Felwort (Gentianella amarella)
It is fairly widespread in the Pennines, mid Westmorland and around Morecambe Bay.

It can range in colour from deep purple to pale pink and lilic or, as here predominantly white. The flowers on the main shot are not yet fully open. An extra shows one that is. It is the less common variety with four petals whereas there are more often five. You can see the resemblance to the Gentian known by everybody.

These grow on the South facing slopes of the Knott but the ones in this photo are right on the summit where we have not seen them before. It prefers limestone grassland or dunes.
