More Butterflies!

Today at lunchtime the temperature soared to 19ºC and more butterflies came to feed on Viburnum nectar. There was the monarch from yesterday, with a bit missing from its wing, this battered yellow admiral (above), and a red admiral that refused to open its wings. They were very active. At first the small yellow admiral tried to chase the much larger monarch away, but soon gave up. I was determined to get a shot of the red admiral and spent some time concentrating on it with my finger on the shutter button. At the same time I was aware of the big monarch drifting around my head, demanding to be photographed again.

See extra for the monarch showing off and the red admiral bent on hiding its colours.

By late afternoon the weather was back to normal winter.
