Mediaeval

In the midst of a busy day viewing houses, we had some time to kill and took a detour to Wisborough Green where we nipped in to the church of St Peter ad Vincula for a look around. There’s a recess with wall paintings dating back to the time of King John (1199-1216). These were subsequently covered over until, in 1867 while the church was being restored, two workmen got into an argument over a local girl. During the ensuing brawl, a stone was thrown and this dislodged some of the filling of the recess, exposing the wall paintings for the first time in hundreds of years.
