Sign of hope

Sheltering from the cold, damp , stormy weather in the open to the elements ferry waiting shed in Tarbert today I looked up and saw behind a house on the hillside what I was sure was a Rhododendron in flower.

It was.

There are of course many different types and as they all have different flowering times (there was one in the walled garden at Culzean that used to flower at Christmas) perhaps there is nothing unusual in the fact of it being only mid February.

But the weather was so dreadful this afternoon that just to see it through the chill wind driven sleet was a definite promise of better things to come.
