Ironton Ferry

3 of us went exploring today, and found the Ironton, Mi. Ferry. It cuts off an arm of Lake Charlevoix, which is Michigan's 3rd largest lake. It is cable driven, holds 4 cars, and on a busy day...crosses the channel 100 times.

The fare for crossing?
A vehicle with trailer (less than 16 feet)...$6.00
A vehicle...$3.00
A motorcycle...$2.00
A bicycle (including rider)...$1.00
A pedestrian...50 cents

It is 610 feet across, and it goes so quickly that they won't let you get out of your car. It has been operating (in some form) since 1880.

Pretty nifty.
