Twisted stems

Todays challenge is 'Twisted'
These are the twisted stems of my wisteria.
When we moved into this house there were 2 plants over an archway and they looked magnificent. Since then, each year, they have gone downhill. Last year we only had a smattering of flowers and the colour was very pale compared to what they were.
I am slightly tempted to cut them right back to ground level since all this twisting cant be good for the sap circulation.
